Estonia

Cricket Tour to Estonia

Estonia’s capital Tallinn was once labelled the new Prague but many now believe it has earned its own legendary reputation.  It is said Tallinn is where the dream world becomes real and the reality is unbelievable!

The options for a night out are endless. Before even stepping foot in one of the many nightclubs or casinos you can choose between traditional Estonian pubs like Karja Kelder, international bars like Molly Malone’s, trendy lounge bars like the Stereo Lounge and lots more local pubs, wine bars and theme pubs.

Tallinn is an old town with old world charm - a world heritage site with magnificent medieval buildings interspersed by cobblestone streets, side alleys and inner courtyards. Add to this charm the copious amounts of post match entertainment for grown ups and you’re in cricket tour heaven.

Brittany

Sir Tim Rice is now Honorary President of The Estonian Cricket Association, and The Lords Taverners and The MCC both tour here, testimony to the quality of Estonia as a cricket tour destination.

The main cricket ground is pretty much in the centre of Tallinn and 2007 sees the building of their 2nd ground which will be overlooked by Palmse Manor, a 300 year old manor house set in one of the most beautiful and best-restored estates in the Baltic countries.  They’re keen to stress that all standards of touring teams are welcome and the emphasis is always on the social side of the game, or what they refer to as ‘apres cricket’!

For summer cricket the climate is very much like a British summer and you can tour any time between May and October (playing conditions generally perfect from June to August).  Or, if you want a taste of the new craze to hit the cricketing world why not try Ice Cricket!

Ice Cricket

Crazy, but true! - Ice Cricket is played on a wicket carved out of the ice covering Lake Harku, the Baltic Sea or, if the outdoor ice isn’t thick enough, indoors in the former Soviet missile factory in Tallinn - all followed by legendary after tournament parties.

You can either go for a social tour and play local Estonian teams or we have two tournaments dates each year exclusive to Shire Sports Tours, one in February and one in March.

This is a great opportunity to take a small covert group to check out Tallinn in preparation for a future summer tour or if you really like the idea why not get the whole club involved and enter two or more teams of 6?

Top tip - the first thing to remember to pack is your spikes!

Helsinki option

Ask us too about the possibility of including a fixture in Finland with your summer tour to Estonia - the capital Helsinki is only a short ferry trip across the Baltic Sea from Tallinn and is an equally enthralling city.  Finland is much more expensive than Estonia so we recommend you spend the bulk of you time in Tallinn with a night or two in Helsinki.

So however you choose to enjoy the magic of the Baltics we can help - get in touch so we can plan your tour just the way want it.
